Vehicle Speed Sensor: Service and Repair


1981---84 Eldorado & Seville
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove lower instrument panel cover.
3. Unclip relay panel from twilight sentinel amplifier and cruise control controller mounting bracket, located left of the steering column.
4. Remove screws securing mounting bracket to instrument panel assembly.
5. Lower mounting bracket and disconnect electrical speed sensor connector from cruise control controller.
6. Remove instrument cluster.
7. With speed sensor disconnected from rear of instrument cluster, remove by pulling sensor harness and connector through opening in instrument panel assembly.
8. Reverse procedure to install.



1985---86 Eldorado & Seville
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect sensor electrical connector.
3. Remove speed sensor retainer.
4. Remove speed sensor, then the drive gear.
5. Reverse procedure to install. When installing retainer, it must be seated on speed sensor assembly, motor governor cover.
