Valve Spring: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove rocker arms and spark plugs.
3. Install air line adapter tool No. J-23590 or equivalent, into spark plug port and apply compressed air to hold valves in place.
4. Using tool No. J-33302 or equivalent, Fig. 8, compress valve spring and remove rocker guides, valve locks, caps and valve spring.
5. Remove valve stem oil seal.

INSTALLATION
1. Using clean engine oil, lubricate valve stem and install new valve stem oil seal over valve stem and seat onto valve guide.
2. Position valve spring and cap over valve stem. Using tool No. J-33302 or equivalent, compress valve spring and install valve locks.
3. Install rocker guides and rocker arms, then remove tool No. J-33302.
4. Remove air line adapter tool and install spark plugs.
5. Install camshaft carrier cover. Torque bolts to 5 ft. lbs.
