Timing Chain Tensioner: Service and Repair

SPECIAL TOOL REQUIRED (or equivalent)
^ J-33875, Timing chain tensioner, spring compressor.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Front cover.
2. Tensioner fasteners and tensioner.

NOTE: The timing chain tensioner is spring loaded and requires some care when installing.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Compress tensioner spring using J-33875 (figure 14).
2. Using a suitable tool (cotter pin, nail) that is capable of keeping the spring compressed, insert tool into hole "A" (figure 15).
3. Install chain tensioner and tighten fasteners to 18-29 Nm (13-21 ft lbs).
4. Remove tool (cotter pin, nail) from tensioner.
5. Front cover.
