Cranking Signal: Description and Operation
The ECM looks at the starter solenoid to tell when the engine is cranking. Voltage applied to the starter solenoid is also applied to the ECM through the crank fuse. This
voltage signals the ECM that the car is in the starting mode. If the crank signal is not received by the ECM, a code E018 will be stored and the vehicle may be difficult to start.
