Engine Control Module: Service and Repair

ECM Mounting:





When replacing a production ECM with a service ECM, transfer the broadcast code and production number from the production unit to the service unit. Also, during replacement, the PROM, CALPACK or if equipped, the MEMCAL, must be removed from the ECM being replaced and transferred to the new unit. Refer to PROM, CALPAK, or MEMCAL for procedures.
NOTE: To prevent possible Electrostatic Discharge damage to the ECM, Do Not touch the connector pins or soldered components on the circuit board.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect trash collector.
3. Disconnect right hand hush panel.
4. Remove glove box assembly.
5. Disconnect connector from the brake control module and attaching bolts from brake control module.
6. Remove brake control module through the glove box space.
7. Then disconnect ECM connectors.
8. Remove computer mounting nuts.
9. Remove computer from passenger compartment.
10. See PROM under COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES for specific removal instructions.
11. Reverse procedure to install.
