Fuel Filter: Service and Repair

WARNING:
^ To reduce the risk of fire and personal injury always follow the proper procedure for disconnecting and connecting fuel pipe quick connect fittings. This will ensure good connections and prevent possible fuel leaks.
^ Safety glasses must be worn when using compressed air, as flying dirt particles may cause eye injury.
^ To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle at the opposite end from which components are being removed. This will reduce the possibility of the vehicle falling off of the hoist.

^ Relieve the fuel system pressure, refer to FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.

REMOVAL:

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Relieve the fuel system pressure, refer to FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.
3. Disconnect the fuel inlet and outlet connections using suitable back-up wrenches.
4. Remove the fuel filter.

INSTALLATION:

1. Remove the protective caps from the new filter.
2. Install the filter in the retainer noting the direction of flow indicated on the filter.
3. Connect the fuel inlet and outlet connections using suitable back-up wrenches, and tighten to 27-34 N-m (20-25 lb. ft.).
4. Tighten the fuel filler cap.
5. Connect the negative battery cable.
6. Turn the ignition "ON" for two seconds, then turn it "OFF" for five seconds. Again turn the ignition "ON" and check for fuel leaks.
