Malfunction Indicator Lamp: Service and Repair

SERVICE TELLTALE AND MESSAGE


The instrument panel cluster (IPC) contains the 'SERVICE ENGINE SOON' telltale which is turned ON when the PCM detects a fault in the engine control system.
A 'SERVICE VEHICLE SOON' message will be displayed on the Driver Information Center (DIC) when the PCM detects a fault in the Generator, Fuel Pump Circuit, VCC Brake Switch, or PRNDL Switch.

TELLTALE ON


1. BULB CHECK: Ignition switch in crank position.

2. MALFUNCTION: When certain diagnostic Trouble Codes are current. See 'Diagnostic Codes' for those codes that turn on the telltale.

3. DIAGNOSTIC MODE: After the indicator and segment display check, the telltale should remain on.

TELLTALE OFF

1. KEY ON, ENGINE OFF, or ENGINE RUNNING:





No trouble codes stored or all trouble codes stored as history or certain trouble codes stored current. See 'Diagnostic Codes', for those current codes that do not turn on the 'S.E.S.' telltale.
