Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair


BACKUP LAMP AND TRANSMISSION POSITION SENSOR SWITCH ASSEMBLY

Backup Lamp And Transmission Position Sensor Switch Assembly:






REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Remove battery negative cable assembly.
2. Instrument panel sound insulator assembly.
3. Wiring at switch assembly (821).
4. Parking brake actuator vacuum hose assembly.
5. Bolt/screw (897).
6. Retainer (898) and nut (895).
^ Pull off.
7. Switch assembly (821).

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Switch assembly (821).
A. Place transmission assembly in "NEUTRAL".
B. Align actuator on switch assembly (821) with hole in shift tube.
C. Position connector side of switch assembly (821) to fit into cutout on steering column jacket (824).
D. Push down on switch assembly (821) to lock tangs into place.
E. Old Switch only- Move switch assembly (821) to "LOW" gear position. Place transmission in PARK; switch assembly (821) will ratchet as it adjust itself.
F. New Switch only - Place transmission in PARK; switch will ratchet as it adjust itself.

2. Retainer (898) and nut (895).
3. Bolt/screw (897).

TIGHTEN
^ Bolt/screw (897) to 2 Nm (18 lb.in.).

4. Parking brake actuator vacuum hose assembly.
5. Wiring at switch assembly (821).
6. Instrument panel sound insulator assembly.
7. Battery negative cable assembly.
