Electronic Brake Control Module: Description and Operation

DESCRIPTION
The EBCM is a small control computer. The EBCM monitors the speed of each wheel as well as several other functions internal to the BPM (brake pressure modulator) valve. On models equipped with traction control, this device is an Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module (EBTCM). The EBTCM/EBCM's main functions are to detect wheel locking or wheel slip tendencies, control the brake system while in anti-lock mode or traction control mode and monitor the system for proper operation.

On models equipped with the 4.6L Northstar engine, the EBTCM/EBCM communicates torque requests (PWM signals) and receives delivered torque (PWM signals) from the PCM. The EBTCM/EBCM also communicates using ABS/TCS diagnostic trouble codes while in diagnostic mode to the IPC via serial data.
