Timing Cover: Service and Repair

ENGINE FRONT COVER

REMOVAL PROCEDURE






1. Remove the accessory drive belt.
2. Remove the bolt securing the power steering hose.
3. Remove the crankshaft balancer.
4. Remove the accessory belt tensioner.






5. Remove the accessory belt idler pulley.






6. Remove the front cover bolts.
7. Remove the front cover and gasket. The gasket is reusable. Do not discard unless it is damaged.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE






1. Place a small daub of RTV sealant at the split line of the upper and lower crankcases.
2. Place the front cover gasket over the crankcase dowel pins.
3. Install the front cover over the dowel pins.
4. Install the front cover bolts.
^ Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 ft. lbs.).






5. Install the accessory belt idler pulley.
^ Tighten the bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).






6. Install the accessory belt tensioner (1).
^ Tighten the bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).

7. Install the crankshaft balancer.
8. Install the power steering hose retainer.
9. Install the accessory drive belt.
