Power Steering Line/Hose: Service and Repair

DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE





1. Loosen both cylinder line fittings (1) on the cylinder end of the gear assembly.
2. Loosen both fittings on the cylinder line assemblies (3) at the valve end of the gear assembly.





3. Remove both cylinder line assemblies (1) from the rack and pinion gear assembly (2).





4. Remove the O-ring seals (1) from the valve end
5. Discard the O-ring seals (1).

ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE





1. Inspect the cylinder lines (1) for the following Items:
^ Cracks
^ Dents
^ Damage to the threads
2. Replace the parts as needed.





3. Install the new O-ring seals (1) to the valve end of the cylinder lines.

Notice: Carefully align the threads on all of the fittings. Finger tighten the fittings to prevent stripping and cross-threading.

Important: Flush and bleed power steering system (hoses, reservoir and cooler lines) with power steering fluid GM Part #1050017 (or equivalent meeting GM Specification #9985010). Refer to BLEEDING POWER STEERING SYSTEM.





4. Install the cylinder line assemblies (1) to the gear assembly (2).

Tighten Valve end fittings to 16.9 Nm (12.6 ft. lbs.). Cylinder end fittings to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.)
