Engine Control Unit - Intermittent Engine Stalling

File In Section: 06 - Engine/Propulsion System

Bulletin No.: 00-06-04-034

Date: August, 2000

Subject:
Technical - Intermittent Engine Stall (Reprogram Engine Control Unit (ECU)

Models:
1999-2000 Cadillac Catera

Condition

Some customers may comment that the engine stalls under one or more of the following conditions:

^ During vehicle deceleration

^ During slow speed turning/parking maneuvers

Important:
This condition may be intermittent and difficult to duplicate.

Correction

1. Perform the strategy based diagnostic procedure and check for DTC's. If a DTC is shown on the Tech 2, perform the proper repair associated with that trouble code.

2. If no DTC's were shown, verify the Engine Control Unit (ECU) software version with the Tech 2. If the software is not 01140310, reprogram the ECU using either the standard Service Programming System (SPS) reprogramming procedure or the pass-thru method.

Software version 01140310 is found on TIS 2000 CD # 13 and future versions.

3. After completion of the reprogramming by either method, clear all DTC's from all on-board systems.

4. Verify the software version as 01140310 with the Tech 2.
