Torque Converter: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement.
2. Remove the torque converter (1) from the transmission.
3. Remove the torque converter seal bolts.
4. Remove the torque converter seal.
5. Remove the input shaft seal from the input shaft.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the input shaft seal to the input shaft.
2. Install the torque converter seal.
3. Install the converter seal bolts.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

- Tighten the torque converter seal bolts to 3 Nm (26 inch lbs.).

Important: Failure to fully seat the torque converter into the transmission pump gear can damage the pump and/or gear.

4. Install the torque converter (1). Push the torque converter into position while rotating. The torque converter must be fully seated.
- The torque converter must be fully seated on the turbine shaft
- The torque converter must be fully seated in the pump drive gear
5. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement.
