Exhaust System: Service and Repair


Removal Procedure





1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the oxygen sensor heat shield. Refer to Converter Heat Shield Replacement.
3. Remove the oxygen sensor. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor (HODS) Replacement Bank 1 Sensor 2-4.6L.
4. Remove four nuts from the catalytic converter to the exhaust downpipe.





5. Remove the two nuts and bolts securing the center exhaust hanger to the body.





6. Remove the rear exhaust hanger attachment, to rail.
7. Remove the exhaust system.

Installation Procedure





1. Position the exhaust system to the vehicle.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the rear exhaust bracket to the underbody.
- Tighten the rear exhaust nuts to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).





3. Install the center exhaust hanger to the exhaust.
- Tighten the exhaust hanger nuts to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).





4. Install the four nuts to the exhaust downpipe to the catalytic converter.
- Tighten the nuts to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the oxygen sensor. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor (HOPS) Replacement Bank 1 Sensor2-4.6L.
6. Install the oxygen sensor heat shield. Refer to Converter Heat Shield Replacement.
7. Lower the vehicle.
