Case: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the left axle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement.

Important: Be careful not to damage the transmission case cover/case extension when removing the seal with a screwdriver.

2. Remove the drive axle seal (37). First use a screwdriver to pry outer the seal from the transmission. Use pliers in order to remove the remaining housing of drive axle seal from the transmission.
3. Inspect the drive axle seal mating surface on the drive axle housing for corrosion, grooves or nicks.
4. Clean the drive axle seal mating surface on the drive axle housing with crocus cloth.

Installation Procedure

- Tools Required
- J 39051-2 Left Seal Driver

Important: Be careful not to damage the transmission case cover/case extension when installing the drive axle seal.





1. Install the left-hand drive axle seal (37) using the J 39051-2 and a hammer.
2. Install the left drive axle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement.
