Flex Plate: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure
- Tools Required
- J 36660-A Torque/Angle Meter





1. Remove the transaxle assembly.

Important: Do not reuse the flywheel bolts.

2. Remove the eight mounting bolts.
3. Remove the flywheel and the reinforcement.
4. Clean and inspect the flywheel. Refer to Engine Flywheel Clean and Inspect.

Installation Procedure





1. Position the flywheel and the reinforcement to the crankshaft.
2. Apply sealant, GM P/N 12346004 or equivalent, to the flywheel mounting bolts.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the eight NEW mounting bolts.
3.1. First Pass
- Tighten the flywheel mounting bolts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).
3.2. Final Pass
- Tighten the flywheel mounting bolts an additional 50 degrees using the J 36660-A
4. Install the transaxle assembly.
