Evaporator Core: Service and Repair

EVAPORATOR CORE REPLACEMENT

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Electronic Halogen Leak Detector

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Remove the TXV from the evaporator.
3. Remove the steering column.
4. Remove the brake pedal with the bracket.
5. Remove the evaporator:
^ Plug the fittings to prevent refrigerant oil from dripping on the interior trim.
^ Carefully pull the evaporator core from the HVAC module.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: Carefully install the evaporator core. Avoid bending the cooling fins.




1. Install the evaporator core (2) into the HVAC module (1).
2. Install the brake pedal with the bracket.
3. Install the steering column.
4. Install the TXV.
5. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
6. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A.
