Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair

Catalytic Converter Replacement

^ Tools Required
- J 39194-B Heated Oxygen Sensor Wrench

Removal Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.





2. Disconnect the pre (1) and post (4) Heated Oxygen (H02S) sensor electrical connectors.





3. Remove the muffler pipe flange bolts (1).





4. Remove the exhaust manifold flange nuts.





5. Remove the catalytic converter support bracket bolt(s) (1).
6. Remove the catalytic converter(s) from the vehicle.





7. Remove the exhaust manifold flange gasket.
8. Use J 39194-B to remove the heated oxygen sensors.

Installation Procedure

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





1. Use J 39194-B to install the heated oxygen sensors.
Tighten the heated oxygen sensor to 42 Nm (31 ft. lbs.).
2. Install the exhaust manifold flange gasket.
3. Install the catalytic converter(s) to the vehicle.





4. Install the catalytic converter support bracket bolt(s) (1).
Tighten the catalytic converter support bracket bolt(s) (1) to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).





5. Install the exhaust manifold flange nuts.
Tighten the exhaust manifold flange nuts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).





6. Install the muffler pipe flange bolts (1).
Tighten the muffler pipe flange bolts (1) to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).





7. Connect the pre (1) and post (4) Heated Oxygen (H02S) sensor electrical connectors.
8. Inspect the exhaust system clearances.
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Inspect the exhaust system for leaks.
