Compressor Replacement

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Recover the refrigerant.
2. Remove the accessory drive belt.
3. Remove the engine splash shield.
4. Turn the wheels to the right.
5. Remove the right fascia extension.
6. Disconnect the left engine oil cooler line at the oil filter adapter.
7. Remove the bolt that secures the compressor hose assembly (1).




8. Disconnect the compressor electrical connector.
9. Remove the compressor mounting bolts.
10. Rotate the compressor, so that the compressor may exit through the wheelhouse extension opening.
11. Remove the compressor.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the compressor through the wheelhouse extension.
2. Install the rear mounting bolts.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the rear compressor mounting bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

4. Install the front compressor mounting bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (38 lb ft).




5. Connect the compressor electrical connector.
6. Connect the compressor hose assembly (1) to the compressor.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 30 N.m (20 lb ft).

7. Connect the left engine oil cooler line at the oil filter adapter.
8. Install the accessory drive belt.
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Recharge the A/C system.
11. Leak test the fittings of the component using the J 39400.
12. Install the fascia extension.
13. Install the engine splash shield.
