Headliner Replacement (WC2, WC8)
Removal Procedure
Caution: Do not attempt to repair or alter the head impact energy-absorbing material glued to the headliner or to the garnish trims. If the material is damaged, replace the headliner and/or the garnish trim. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.
1. Remove the front windshield. Refer to Windshield Replacement (Removal and Replacement) in Stationary Windows.
2. Remove the windshield pillar trim. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (Standard) (Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (Standard))Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (WC2, WC8) (Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (With RPO Code WC2, WC8)) .
3. Remove the center pillar trim. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar (Standard) (Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar (Standard))Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar (WC2, WC8) (Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar (WC2, WC8)) .
4. Remove the sail panels. Refer to Sail Panel Replacement (Standard) (Sail Panel Replacement (Standard))Sail Panel Replacement (WC2, WC8) (Sail Panel Replacement (With RPO Code WC2, WC8)) .
5. Remove the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement (Sunshade Replacement) .
6. Disconnect the electrical connector at the windshield outside moisture sensor.
7. Disconnect the rearview mirror electrical connectors.
8. Pull the door opening moldings down to clear the headliner.
9. Remove the assist handles. Refer to Assist Handle Replacement (Service and Repair) .
10. Disconnect the headliner wiring harness connector.
11. Open the wire harness retainers and remove the harness.
Notice: Use care when removing or installing the headliner. Excessive bending will damage the headliner.
12. Release the push-in retainers at the rear of the headliner, if equipped.
13. Pull the headliner down in order to release the cardboard roof dampener from the roof.
14. Remove the headliner through the front window opening.
Installation Procedure
Important: If the headliner locators separate from the headliner during removal, obtain a locator repair kit from GM SPO.
1. Load the headliner into the vehicle through the front window opening.
2. With the aid of an assistant, raise the headliner into position.
3. Install the assist handles. Refer to Assist Handle Replacement (Service and Repair) .
4. Install the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement (Sunshade Replacement) .
5. Install the windshield pillar garnish molding. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (Standard) (Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (Standard))Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (WC2, WC8) (Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (With RPO Code WC2, WC8)) .
6. Install the center pillar garnish molding. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar (Standard) (Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar (Standard))Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar (WC2, WC8) (Garnish Molding Replacement - Center Pillar (WC2, WC8)) .
7. Connect the headliner wiring harness connector.
8. Route and secure the wiring harness in the wiring harness retainers.
9. Install the sail panels. Refer to Sail Panel Replacement (Standard) (Sail Panel Replacement (Standard))Sail Panel Replacement (WC2, WC8) (Sail Panel Replacement (With RPO Code WC2, WC8)) .
Important: Ensure that the inside lip of the door opening weatherstrip is properly seated to close out the headliner, sail panel, and pillar garnish moldings.
10. Install the door opening weatherstrips in the door openings.
11. Connect the rearview mirror electrical connectors.
12. Connect the electrical connectors at the windshield outside moisture sensor.
13. Install the front windshield. Refer to Windshield Replacement (Removal and Replacement) in Stationary Windows.
