Radio Has Static on Strong Signals, AM Reception is Distorted, Radio Backlighting is Inoperative, or CD Changer Does Not Remember the Last Track Played After Key Off (Replace Radio)

Models:
2005 Cadillac STS

with Six Disc CD Changer Radios (RPO YQ2)

Condition

Some customers may comment on any or all of the following conditions:

^ The radio has static even though the radio station has a strong signal.

^ The radio reception on AM stations is distorted.

^ The radio backlighting is inoperative.

^ The CD changer does not remember the last track that was played after the key is turned off. Technicians may find that the Tech 2(R) cannot communicate with the radio.

Cause

These conditions may be caused by the current version of the radio's software.

Correction

U.S. Dealers

Technicians are to replace the radio with an exchange unit to be obtained from Specmo Enterprises in Madison Heights, Michigan. Specmo's telephone numbers are (248) 307-2570 or (800) 545-7911. Specmo Enterprises is the only Authorized Electronic Service Center that stocks these exchange radios. Refer to the Radio Replacement procedure in SI.
