Steering Column Tilt Head Replacement

Tools Required

J 23653-SIR Steering Column Lock Plate

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Restraint System Service Precautions.

1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
2. Remove the SIR coil.





3. Using J 23653-SIR remove the bearing retainer (1).





4. Remove the shaft lock shield assembly (1).
5. Remove the turn signal cancel cam assembly (2).
6. Remove the upper bearing spring (3).

Installation Procedure





1. Install the upper bearing spring (3).
2. Install the turn signal cancel cam assembly (2).
3. Install the shaft lock shield assembly (1).





4. Install the bearing retainer onto J 23653-SIR.
5. Using J 23653-SIR depress the shaft lock shield assembly.
6. Push the bearing retainer (1) into place.
7. Remove J 23653-SIR from the steering shaft.
8. Install the SIR coil.
9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
