A/T - Sticking Throttle Valves

SUBJECT: THROTTLE VALVES

PROBLEM: Hanging throttle valves

To confirm a sticking throttle valve: Remove the TV bracket, the throttle valve plunger sleeve, and spring. The small throttle valve at the rear of the bore can then be checked, with a small magnet, for freedom of movement.

Do not remove or loosen any bolts other than those retaining the TV bracket assembly. Often the throttle valve will appear free once the valve body bolts are loosened, or removed.

It is recommended to install this line-up after all the other valve body bolts are torqued. A check can then be made on the throttle valve one last time. Distortion, or over-torquing often "drags" or "jams" the throttle valve, and it can easily be detected and corrected at this point, rather than "down the line".

Also, remember to drill the TV "balance" hole in the separator plates on all the models to .046" - .055".

This will HELP to insure against valve "hang-up".

The hole location is shown for each transmission on a separate sheet, to allow disbursements of these sheets into their proper manuals, or binder sections.

Note:
There is no 700 R4, due to recent bulletin covering the orifice hole in point.
