Throttle Position Sensor: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air cleaner, then disconnect electrical connector from sensor.
3. Remove sensor attaching screws, lockwashers, retainers and the sensor. Discard attaching screws. It may be necessary to remove TPS actuating lever attaching screw from end of throttle shaft to remove sensor.
4. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Install TPS on throttle body assembly with throttle valve in the normal closed idle position.
b. Ensure TPS pickup lever is above tang on throttle actuator lever.
c. Apply suitable locking compound to screws prior to installation.
d. Do not tighten screws until TPS has been adjusted. Refer to ``Throttle Position Sensor, Adjust.''
