Park/Neutral Position And Backup Lamp Switch:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Place gear selector in ``Neutral'' position.
3. Remove screws securing switch to steering column, then the switch.
4. Disconnect wiring connectors. Connect wiring connectors to new switch.
5. Insert .096 inch gage pin into switch gage hole to a depth of 3/8 inch, Fig. 6. The switch is fixed in neutral position by a plastic shear pin installed during production.
6. Position the switch on the steering column. Ensure switch carrier tang is inserted in shift tube slot, then install switch retaining screws and tighten.
7. Remove gage pin, then place gear selector in ``Park'' position to shear plastic pin.
8. Return gear selector to ``Neutral'' position and attempt to insert a .089 inch gage pin in gage hole. Pin should enter freely.
9. If gage pin does not enter gage hole freely, switch should be reset.
10. Connect battery ground cable and check switch operation.
