Ignition Timing: Adjustments

NOTE: Refer to the Vehicle Emissions Control Information label located on the radiator support panel. Follow all instructions on the label.

FIRING ORDER 1.9L (119) 1-3-4-2:

IGNITION TIMING ADJUSTMENT
- Verify the Idle Speed is within specifications, adjust if necessary.
- With ignition "OFF", connect the pick-up lead of timing light to the number one spark plug.
- Disconnect and plug vacuum line at distributor vacuum advance.

TIMING MARK 1.9L (119):

- Start the engine, and aim the timing light at the timing mark. The line on the pulley should line up with the timing mark. Specifications
- If an adjustment is necessary:
- Loosen the distributor hold-down clamp bolt at the base of the distributor.
- While observing the mark with the timing light, slightly rotate the distributor until the line indicates the correct timing.
- Tighten the hold-down bolt, and re-check the timing.
- Turn off the engine and remove the timing light.
- Reconnect the vacuum line to the distributor advance.
- Recheck Idle Speed and adjust if necessary.
