Valve Spring: Service and Repair

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
Tools required:
^ J23590 Air line adapter.
^ J5892 or J-26513-A Valve spring compressor.
^ J23994 Tester.
1. Valve cover.
2. Spark Plug.
3. Rocker arm.
4. Push rod.
5. Install air line adapter Tool J23590 to spark plug port and apply compressed air to hold the valves in place.
6. With tool J5892 or J-26513-A, compress the valve spring.
7. Disassemble
^ Valve locks.
^ Valve spring.
^ Spring seat.
^ Valve stem oil seal.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
Assemble
^ Spring seat.
^ Valve spring.
^ Valve cap.
^ Valve stem seal over the valve guide base.
- Use plastic sleeve provided.
- Press over valve guide boss.
1. With tool J5892 or J-26513-A, compress the valve spring.
2. Valve locks. If necessary, hold them in place with grease.
3. Release valve spring.
Inspect
^ Make sure valve locks are seated.
^ With tool J23994, apply vacuum to the valve cap to make sure no air leaks past the seal.
4. Spark plug.
Tighten
^ To 14-34 Nm (10-25 ft. lbs.)
5. Push rod.
6. Rocker arm.
Tighten
^ Nuts to 20-27 Nm (14-20 ft. lbs.)
7. Valve cover.
Tighten
^ Bolts to 8-12 Nm (6-9 ft. lb.)
