Assembly

1. Install new O-rings on piston, then apply a suitable lubricant.
2. Install piston in forward clutch drum, cup side up, using care not to damage O-ring.
3. Install 18 piston return springs and spring retainer.
4. Compress return springs, then insert snap ring into groove, ensuring end gap is not aligned with spring retainer claw.
5. Install plates, discs and flange in order: plate-disc- plate-disc-plate-disc, then flange with flat end downward.
6. Install outer snap ring, ensuring end gap is not aligned with cutouts.
7. Using a suitable feeler gauge, measure clearance between flange and snap ring. If clearance is not as specified in Image, select a flange that will bring clearance within specifications.
8. Check for proper operation of forward clutch assembly by applying compressed air to shaft oil passage to ensure piston moves.
9. Install thrust washer, races and bearings.
