There are 2 notches in the piston crown. When assembling pistons onto connecting rods, position rod so that raised notch side of rod at bearing end, Fig. 8, is opposite notch in piston crown. Install piston and rod assemblies in engine block with notches in piston crowns facing front of engine. After installation, check connecting rod side clearance. If clearance is not .006-.022 inch, connecting rod should be replaced.
