Idle Mixture Adjustment


1. Remove carburetor assembly from engine.
2. Remove idle mixture adjusting screw plug (concealment plug). Refer to ``Carburetors'' section for procedure.
3. Remove and inspect idle mixture adjusting screw. Replace screw, if necessary.
4. Install idle mixture adjusting screw. Lightly seat idle mixture screw, then back out screw three complete turns from fully closed on manual transmission models or two complete turns from fully closed on automatic transmission models.
5. Install carburetor on to engine.
6. Check and adjust idle mixture as follows:
a. Connect positive (+) side of a suitable dwell meter to the duty monitor lead and ground negative side. Set dwell meter dial to the 4 cylinder scale or 6 cylinder scale. Start engine.
b. Turn idle mixture screw, until dwell meter indicates 36° on the 4 cylinder scale or 24° on the 6 cylinder scale.
7. Turn ignition switch to OFF position and remove tachometer from engine.
8. Adjust idle speed, if necessary.
