Side Cover: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
2. Remove alternator and bracket and secure alternator aside.
3. Remove spark plug and ignition coil wires and bracket. On 1989 models, disconnect fuel lines and remove clips from pushrod cover.
4. On all models, disconnect lower radiator and heater hoses.
5. Remove oil pressure sending unit and disconnect wiring harness brackets from side cover.
6. Remove side cover retaining nuts and the cover.
7. Ensure old sealant is removed from cover and block mating surfaces, then apply a continuous bead of RTV sealant, 3/6 inch wide, to cover sealing surface.
8. Install side cover and tighten retaining nuts to specification, then reverse remaining procedure to complete installation.
