Campaign - Positive Battery Cable Routing: Overview

Number: 92C32
Section: 8B
Date: Feb., 1993

Subject:
PRODUCT CAMPAIGN 92C32 - POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE ROUTING

Model and Year:
1992 CHEVROLET CAPRICE WITH 4.3L V-6 ENGINE

To: All Chevrolet Dealers

General Motors has determined that certain 1992 Chevrolet Caprice model vehicles with 4.3L V-6 engines (RPO LB4) may exhibit a condition in which the positive battery cable can contact the exhaust manifold during engine operation and cause the battery cable insulation to melt. Exposed cable wiring may then "ground out" intermittently against the exhaust manifold, possibly causing a drained battery.

To correct this condition, dealers are to install a new positive battery cable with revised routing.
