Wheel Speed Sensor: Service and Repair

Front

The front wheel speed sensor is part of the wheel hub assembly and must be serviced as an assembly.

Rear

Fig. 62 Wheel Speed Sensors:

1. Disarm air airbag system as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES, then disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
3. Remove sensor electrical connector from bracket, then disconnect sensor connector.
4. Remove sensor wire grommets from brackets, noting sensor wire routing for reassembly.
5. Remove sensor to knuckle attaching bolts, then the sensor, Fig. 62.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. On 1990-91 models, coat new wheel speed sensor with anti-corrosion compound No. 9981128, or equivalent prior to installation.
b. On 1992 models, coat new wheel speed sensor with anti-corrosion compound No. 12345489, or equivalent prior to installation.
c. On all models, do not use hammer to install sensor.
d. On 1990-91 models, torque sensor attaching bolt to 89 inch. lbs.
d. On 1992 models, torque sensor attaching bolt to 86 inch. lbs.
e. On all models, rearm airbag system as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES.
