Compressor Shaft Seal: Service and Repair

Compressor Assembly:






Tool Required:
J 34614 Shaft Seal Protector

Remove or Disconnect

1. Rotor.
2. Stator.
3. Service valve.
4. Drain oil, measure quantity, and discard oil.
5. Five compressor through bolts and discard washers.
6. Front housing.
7. Suction reed valve.
8. Valve plate.
9. Discharge reed valve.
10. Casket.

NOTICE: Be careful not to scratch the sealing surface of the front housing.

11. Front O-ring from compressor housing and discard O-ring.
12. Felt from front housing and discard felt.
13. Retaining ring securing clutch shaft seal to front housing.
14. Clutch shaft seal.

Install or Connect

1. Lubricate clutch shaft seal with clean compressor oil.
2. Clutch shaft seal to front housing.
3. Retaining ring securing clutch shaft seal to front housing.
4. Using pressure plate, install new felt to front housing.
5. Lubricate O-ring with clean compressor oil.
6. New O-ring to compressor housing.
7. Suction reed valve.
8. Valve plate.
9. Discharge reed valve.
10. Gasket.
11. J 34614 to clutch shaft.
12. Front housing. Remove J 34614 from clutch shaft.
13. Compressor through bolts with new washers.

Tighten
^ Compressor through bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb. ft.).

14. Fill crankcase with predetermined amount of new compressor oil.
15. New service valve seal ring.
16. Service valve.

Adjust
^ Check compressor shaft rotating torque. Torque should not exceed 2.9 N.m (26 lb. in.).

17. Stator.
18. Rotor.
