Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Control Module Replacement

Caution:
Replacement of the Electronic Control Module (ECM) consists of a service controller without a Prom.

If the diagnostic procedures required the ECM to be replaced, the ECM and Prom should be checked for the correct part number. If they are, remove the Prom and install it in the service controller. The service controller will not contain a Prom.

When replacing a production ECM with a service controller, transfer the broadcast code and production ECM part number to the controller label. Do not record information on the access cover.

The key must be "OFF" when disconnecting or reconnecting the ECM connector, to prevent internal damage to the ECM.

To prevent possible Electrostatic Discharge damage to the ECM, do not touch the connector pins or soldered components on the circuit board.

To prevent possible Electrostatic Discharge damage to the Prom, do not touch the component leads, and do not remove integrated circuit from carrier.
