Replacing The Crankshaft Sprocket:




REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
Tools Required: J 5825-A Crankshaft Sprocket Puller
1. Timing cover. Refer to Timing Cover / Service and Repair. Service and Repair
^ Place number one piston at top dead center with the marks on the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets aligned (number four firing) (figure 7).
Inspect
^ Sprockets for chipped teeth and wear.
^ Timing chain for wear.
^ If the chain can be pulled out more than 9.5 mm (3/8 inch), from the damper. replace the chain.
2. Camshaft sprocket bolts.
3. Camshaft sprocket and chain.
^ If the sprocket does not come off easily, a light blow on the lower edge of the sprocket (with a plastic mallet only) should dislodge the sprocket.
4. Crankshaft sprocket (if required) using J 5825-A.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
Tools Required: J 5590 Crankshaft Sprocket Installer
1. Crankshaft sprocket (if removed) using J 5590.
^ Make sure the timing mark faces outward.
2. Timing chain onto the camshaft sprocket.
^ Lubricate the thrust surface with "Molykote" or equivalent.
3. Sprocket onto the camshaft.
^ Hold the sprocket vertically with the chain hanging down and align the marks on the cam- shaft and crankshaft sprockets.
^ Align the dowel in the camshaft with the dowel hole in the sprocket.
4. Camshaft sprocket bolts.
^ Draw the camshaft sprocket onto the camshaft using the mounting bolts.
Tighten
^ Camshaft sprocket bolts to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.).
5. Timing cover. Refer to Timing Cover / Service and Repair. Service and Repair
^ Lubricate the timing chain with engine oil.
