Air Bag System Disarming
The diagnostic energy reserve module (DERM) stores enough power to deploy the airbag up to ten minutes after the ignition switch is turned off or the vehicle battery is disconnected. Servicing the vehicle's SIR-associated systems without first disabling the airbag may result in accidental deployment and personal injury.
1. Place steering wheel so that wheels are pointing straight ahead.
2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position and remove SIR fuse from fuse block.
3. Remove steering column filler panel.
4. Remove connector position assurance (CPA), then disconnect yellow two-way SIR electrical connector at base of steering column.
