Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Idle Speed/Throttle Actuator - Electronic: Testing and Inspection

The scan tool displays IAC pintle position in counts. "0" counts indicates the PCM is commanding the IAC pintle to be driven all the way into a fully seated position. This is usually caused by a vacuum leak.

The higher the number of counts, the more air is being commanded to bypass the IAC pintle.
Refer to DTC P0506, DTC P0507, DTC P1508, and DTC P1509 in order to diagnose the IAC system. Testing and Inspection
Refer to Rough, Unstable, or Incorrect Idle, Stalling in Symptoms, for other possible causes of idle problems. Testing and Inspection
