Engine/Transaxle - Excessive Engine Roll

File In Section: 6 - Engine

Bulletin No.: 63-61-07

Date: February, 1996

INFORMATION

Subject:
Engine/Transaxle Mount Replacement Due To Excessive Engine Roll

Models:
1992-96 Buick Skylark
1995-96 Chevrolet Cavalier
1992-96 Oldsmobile Achieva
1992-96 Pontiac Grand Am
1995-96 Pontiac Sunfire

Some dealers are replacing engine mounts and/or transaxle mounts due to excessive engine roll.

However, a large amount of engine roll is design intent. The engine/transaxle mounts are not to be replaced for an excessive engine roll condition unless verified defective. Eliminate all other possibilities for apparent condition. When suspecting an engine/transaxle mount, compare condition with another vehicle of same model and powertrain combination before replacement of a mount.

Important:
During replacement of any engine or transaxle mount, the mount may become preloaded. This has been found to cause an engine vibration at times. Therefore, when replacing any mount, the transaxle mount expansion plug should be loosened during replacement and tightened when replacement is complete. Be sure to torque the expansion plug to the proper specification.
