Throttle Position Sensor: Description and Operation

Throttle Position (TP) Sensor:

DESCRIPTION
The Throttle Position (TP) sensor is a potentiometer (a device for measuring an unknown voltage or potential difference by comparison to a standard voltage). The TP sensor sends a voltage to the control module, varying from (approximately 0.5 volts) to (approximately 5 volts). This voltage signal to the control module represents throttle shaft angle. At closed throttle, the signal voltage to the control module is approximately 0.5 volts. As the throttle shaft angle increases the signal voltage increases to greater than 4.5 volts at wide open throttle. The TP sensor is attached to the injector pump assembly.
