Using Powertrain Control Module

To clear any Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) from the memory, either to determine if the malfunction will occur again or because repair has been completed, a diagnostic scan tool may be used, or the power feed must be disconnected for at least thirty (30) seconds.

Depending on application, the following methods may be used to clear DTC's:

- Disconnect power source to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) ie., fuse, pigtail at battery etc.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. (The negative battery cable may be disconnected, but other on-board memory data, such as preset radio tuning, will also be lost.)

NOTE: To prevent system damage, the key must be "OFF" when disconnecting or reconnecting power.
