Heater Core: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain coolant from system.
2. Remove the coolant recovery tank.
3. After placing suitable drain pan under vehicle, disconnect heater hoses at core, cap hose ends, and allow core to drain.
4. Remove the screws that hold the distributor duct to the distributor case and engine cover.
5. Remove the engine housing cover.
6. Remove instrument panel.
7. Lower the steering column, then raise and support the right side of the instrument panel.
8. Remove the defroster duct to distributor case attaching screws, then the distributor to heater case screws.
9. Disconnect the temperature cable.
10. Remove three nuts on the engine compartment side of the distributor case and one screw on the passenger side.
11. Tilt the case assembly rearward at the top while lifting up until the core tubes clear the dash openings.
12. Remove the heater case.
13. Remove the heater core retaining straps, then the heater core.
14. Reverse procedure to install.
