Windows: Description and Operation

A permanent magnet motor operates both of the Power Window Regulator Motors. Each motor raises or lowers the window when voltage is supplied to it. The direction of motion depends upon the motor terminal at which the voltage is applied. Both motor terminals are normally grounded through the Power Side Window Switches. When the motor is to be operated, a set of switch contacts in the Power Side Window Switch breaks a normally closed ground connection and makes a voltage connection. Current flows through the switch contacts, through the motor, and through the other normally closed contact to ground and the window operates.

The LF Door Power Window Regulator Motor is only operated from the LF Door Power Side Window Switch. The RF Door Power Window Regulator Motor may be operated from either the LF Door Power Side Window Switch or the RF Door Power Side Window Switch.

Each Power Window Regulator Motor is provided with an internal circuit breaker which will open after a time if the window is unable to move while the motor is operating. Mechanical binding in the window drive may also cause the local circuit breaker to operate. The local circuit breaker resets automatically after the thermal overload device cools.
