Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution. Vehicle Damage Warnings
2. Disconnect the sensor electrical connector.
3. Remove the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Removal.
4. Remove the sensor mounting bolt.
5. Remove the sensor from the engine.

CAUTION: Take care when handling the sensor. Damage to the sensor will affect the operation of the injection timing control system.

6. Inspect the sensor O-ring for wear, cracks or leakage and replace if necessary.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Lube the new O-ring with engine oil.
2. Install the sensor in the engine.
3. Install the sensor mounting bolt.

Tighten
^Tighten the mounting bolt to 25 Nm (17 lb. ft.).

4. Connect the sensor electrical connector.
5. Connect the negative battery cables.
6. Refer to PCM Programming (TDC Offset). This procedure must be done when a crankshaft position sensor is replaced. TDC Offset Program Procedure
