Traction Control Module: Service and Repair
CAUTION: To prevent equipment damage, never connect or disconnect the wiring harness connection from the EBTCM with the ignition switch in the RUN position.REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
2. Disconnect the Electronic Brake/Traction Control Module (EBTCM) harness connector.
3. Remove the EBTCM harness connector locking lever from the EBTCM.
4. Remove the right side EBTCM/Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) bracket (opposite the brake pipes) from the crossmember by removing the three bolts.
5. Remove the insulator mounting bolt from the EBTCM.
6. Remove the four EBTCM to BPMV bolts.
7. Separate the EBTCM from the BPMV by gently pulling apart until separated. Be careful not to damage seal.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Clean the BPMV gasket surface with alcohol using a clean rag.
2. Install the EBTCM to the BPMV.
- Tighten the four mounting bolts to 3 Nm (27 inch lbs.), then tighten to 6 Nm (53 inch lbs).
CAUTION: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement, or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and system.
3. Install the front EBTCM insulator mounting bolt.
- Tighten the EBTCM insulator mounting bolt to 14 Nm (10 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the bracket with insulator attached to the EBTCM by slipping the insulator over the EBTCM insulator mounting bolt.
- Tighten if the insulator was removed tighten the insulator bracket nut to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
5. Install EBTCM bracket to the crossmember by installing the three bolts.
- Tighten the three bolts to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the EBTCM harness connector locking lever on the EBTCM.
7. Connect the EBTCM harness connector.
NOTE: Both sides of the EBTCM harness connector must be engaged with lever before closing.
8. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, engine OFF.
9. Perform the ABS Diagnostic System Check.
