Driver Inflator Module
Removal Procedure
1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in AIR BAGS AND SEAT BELTS.
2. Remove the screws retaining (4) the driver inflator module (3) to the steering wheel.
3. Remove the inflator module (3) from the steering wheel.
4. Disconnect the SIR electrical connector (2) from the back of the driver inflator module.
5. Disconnect the horn wiring harness (6) from the steering column.
6. Disconnect the ground wire (5) from the steering column.
7. Remove the driver inflator module (3) from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the inflator module retaining screws (2) into the module
- Tighten the inflator module retaining screws to 6 Nm (54 lb in).
Notice: Always use the correct fastener In the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application. The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion Inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and joint clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you avoid damage to parts and systems.
2. Connect the ground wire (4) to the steering column retaining.
3. Connect the horn wiring harness (3) to the steering column.
4. Connect the SIR coil electrical connectors (1) and (5) to the back of the driver inflator module.
5. Install the inflator module onto the steering wheel by pushing on both the right and left sides of the inflator module until the retaining screws snap into place.
6. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in AIR BAGS AND SEAT BELTS.
