Removal Procedure
1. Repeat steps 1 through 9 in the lower shroud, upper shroud removal procedure. Refer to Steering Column Shrouds.
2. Remove the snap ring and the SIR coil.
3. Compress the shaft lock shield using J 23653-SIR.
4. Remove and dispose the retaining ring.
5. Remove the wave washer.
6. Remove the shaft lock shield.
7. Remove the two pan head tapping screws.
8. Remove the electronic column lock from the steering column housing.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the electronic column lock from the steering column housing.
2. Install the two pan head tapping screws.
Notice: Always use the correct fastener In the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application. The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion Inhibitors) on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and joint clamping force, and may damage the fastener. When you install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you avoid damage to parts and system.
- Tighten the pan head tapping screws to 6.0 Nm (53 lb in).
3. Install the shaft lock shield.
4. Install the wave washer.
5. Compress the shaft lock shield using J 23653-SIR.
6. Install a new retaining ring.
7. Install the snap ring and the SIR coil.
8. Repeat steps 1 through 9 in the lower shroud, upper shroud removal procedure. Refer to Steering Column Shrouds.
