INSTRUMENT PANEL ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT













































Remove or Disconnect

1. Negative battery cable(s).
2. Disable SIR system.
3. Three relay center bolts from underside of wheel opening.
4. Bulkhead connector.
- Two screws retaining convenience center to cowl.
- Cruise control harness (if equipped).
- Forward lamp harness.
- Rear lamp harness.
- SIR system harness.
- Relay center.
5. Coolant reservoir tank.
6. Antenna lead-in and grommet.






7. Knee bolster screws.
A. Unsnap bolster.
B. Twist brake release cable to disengage.
C. Lap cooler hose.
8. Steering shaft pinch bolt.
9. Left and right sill plate front screw.






10. Left and right hinge pillar trim panels.
11. Brake release handle from the cable.
- Clip releases handle from cable.
12. Reaction plate assembly.
13. Tie bar.
14. 8-way column connector.
15. 48-way connector retainer to access two lower column nuts.
16. Shift cable (automatic transmission).
17. Steering column from tile vehicle.
18. Shift levers.
A. Transfer case knob by pulling straight up. Four wheel drive models must be in 4-LO range.
B. Manual transmission (if equipped).






19. Left and right lower I/P pivot bolts.
20. I/P storage compartment door.






21. I/P storage compartment. Squeeze compartment to release.
22. I/P attaching bolts through storage compartment door.






23. Center support screw.
24. Three upper I/P support screws.
25. I/P from the cowl.
26. Park brake release cable.
27. Electrical connectors (as necessary).
- SDM
- HVAC
- 22-way engine harness
- Stoplamp switch
- VSS calibrator module
- Clutch or Brake release switches
- Electronic accelerator (Diesel)
- HVAC control cables (if equipped).
28. I/P from the vehicle.

At this point, I/P removal is complete. Continue with the next step if replacing or refinishing the I/P.









1. Accessory switch(es) as necessary.






2. Instrument cluster bezel.
3. Headlamp switch.
4. HVAC control assembly.
A. Electrical connectors.
B. Cables (if equipped).
5. Instrument cluster screws.
6. Instrument cluster.






7. I/P auxiliary storage compartment (if equipped).






8. I/P cupholder.






9. Ashtray assembly.
- Electrical connectors.
- Retainer inserts from underneath.
- Twist to the left to release.
10. Radio from carrier.
11. Two air distributor duct screws.
12. Air distributor duct from I/P
- Squeeze clips from front of I/P to release duct.
13. Antenna lead-in.
14. Retaining clips from PSIR or I/P compartment assembly.






15. Passenger Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (PSIR), vehicles up to 8600 GVW.






16. Four nuts retaining the I/P compartment assembly to the carrier, vehicles over 8600 GVW.
17. Rosebud retainers on right side of I/P for harness.






18. I/P storage compartment.
- Squeeze compartment to release.
19. I/P storage compartment lamp.
- Slide to release.
20. Low coolant module (diesel only).
21. DLC.
- One screw and slide out.
22. Harness retainer to accessory switches.
23. Fuse panel and courtesy lamp switch.
24. Ground screw.
25. Harness from the I/P
26. Jumper harness to remote playback device (if equipped).
27. Courtesy lamp switches.
28. Side window defogger outlets.
29. Park brake cable clip.
30. Both air outlet deflectors.






31. PSIR mounting bracket.
32. I/P storage compartment door check strap.
33. I/P storage compartment door striker.













































Install or Connect

1. I/P storage compartment door striker.
2. I/P storage compartment door check strap.






3. PSIR mounting bracket.
4. Both air outlet deflectors.
5. Parking brake cable.
6. Side window defogger outlets.
7. Courtesy lamp switch and electrical connector.
8. Jumper harness to remote playback device (if equipped).
9. Harness to I/P
10. Ground screw.
11. Fuse panel and courtesy lamp switch.
12. Harness retainer to accessory switches.
13. DLC
- Slide in and attach one screw.
14. Low coolant module (diesel only).
15. I/P storage compartment lamp.
16. Rosebud retainers on right side of I/P for harness.






17. Four nuts retaining I/P compartment assembly to the carrier, vehicles over 8600 GVW.






18. PSIR, vehicles up to 8600 GVW.
19. Retaining clips from PSIR or I/P compartment assembly.
20. Antenna lead-in.
21. Air distributor duct to I/P
22. Two air distributor duct screws.
23. Radio to carrier.






24. Ashtray assembly.






25. I/P cupholder.






26. I/P auxiliary storage compartment (if equipped).
27. Instrument cluster with four screws.
28. HVAC control assembly.
29. Headlamp switch.






30. Instrument cluster bezel.









31. Accessory switch(es) as necessary.
32. I/P to vehicle.
- Rest I/P on lower pivot studs.
33. Electrical connectors (as necessary).
34. Park brake release cable.
35. I/P to cowl.
36. Three upper I/P support screws.






37. Center support screw.
38. I/P attaching bolts through storage compartment door.
39. I/P storage compartment.
40. I/P storage compartment door.






41. Left and right lower I/P pivot bolts.
42. Shift levers (if equipped).
- Manual transmission
- Transfer case
43. Steering column to vehicle.
44. Shift cable (automatic transmission).
45. 48-way connector and screw built onto steering column.
46. 8-way column connector.
47. Tie bar with four nuts.
48. Reaction plate assembly.
49. Brake release handle to cable.






50. Left and right hinge pillar trim panels.
51. Left and right sill plate front screws.
52. Steering shaft and bolt.
53. Knee bolster.
54. Coolant reservoir tank.
55. Bulkhead connector.
56. Three relay center bolts to underside of wheel opening.
57. Enable SIR system.
58. Negative battery cable.
