Compressor Pulley: Service and Repair

Tools Required:
J 33023-A Puller Pilot
J 33020 Pulley Puller
J 34992 Compressor Holding Fixture
J 8433-1 Puller Bar
J 8433-3 Forcing Screw

Remove or Disconnect

1. Drive belt.
2. Passenger side electric cooling fan.
3. Install a piece of cardboard where electric cooling fan was to protect radiator.
4. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
5. Passenger side tire and wheel.
6. Passenger side engine splash shield.
7. A/C compressor clutch. Refer to A/C Compressor Clutch".
8. A/C compressor pulley retaining ring using snap ring pliers.
9. Install J 33023-A and J 33020 down into the inner circle of slots and turn clockwise to engage puller tangs. Tighten the puller screw against the puller guide to remove the A/C compressor pulley.
10. Electrical connector from compressor.
11. Compressor mounting bolts and let compressor lie on the frame.

Install or Connect

1. J 34992 around compressor.
2. A/C compressor pulley in place.
3. J 8433-1, J 8433-3, and J 33023-A onto A/C compressor pulley and to J 34992 with mounting bolts. Tighten center screw of puller bar until it pushes the A/C compressor pulley all the way down.
4. Remove J 8433-1, J 8433-3, J 33023-A, and J 34992 from vehicle.
5. A/C compressor pulley retaining ring, Using snap ring pliers.
6. Compressor with mounting bolts.

Tighten
^ Bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb. ft.).

7. Electrical connector to compressor.
8. A/C compressor clutch.
9. Passenger side engine splash shield.
10. Passenger side tire and wheel.
11. Lower vehicle.
12. Remove the piece of cardboard.
13. Passenger side electric cooling fan.
14. Drive belt.
