PROM - MIL ON, DTC P0103, MAF Sensor Circuit

File In Section: 06 - Engine/Propulsion System

Bulletin No.: 99-06-04-007

Date: February, 1999

TECHNICAL

Subject:
Illuminated MIL Light (Diagnose, Reflash Calibrations)

Models:
1998 Chevrolet Camaro
1998 Pontiac Firebird/Trans AM with 5.7L Engine (VIN G - RPO LS1)

Condition

Some customers may comment on an illuminated MIL light. After the technician performs strategy-based diagnostics, the technician may find the following code stored in the PCM.

DTC Code Code Description
Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor Circuit P0103
High Frequency

Important:
All DTC's, technician observations, and customer comments are to be recorded on the repair order in accordance with article 1.6.2 of the General Motors Service Policies and Procedures Manual.

Cause

Certain driving conditions, such as WOT (wide open throttle) upshifts may cause the MAF to exceed air flow parameters and set the code.

Correction

If no vehicle conditions are found when performing the appropriate service procedure for the complaint P-code, then use the Tech II to verity which software calibration is currently programmed into the vehicle's Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If it doesn't match that shown in the new calibration table below, install the appropriate calibration listed below. Test drive the vehicle after repair to ensure that the condition has been corrected.

The calibrations listed are FLASH calibrations and NOT available from GMSPO. Service FLASH calibrations are available starting with 1998 CD ROM disc 14.

Important:
Inform customers that this work is being performed on their vehicles to improve On-Board Diagnostic system operation and does not affect vehicle durability, reliability, or performance.
